Most of these SaaS are built on open source technologies such as &amp;#39;Ruby on Rails&amp;#39; or &amp;#39;PHP&amp;#39;. The real question is what works best when it comes to distribution of software to end users. The answer is &amp;#39;SaaS&amp;#39;. Open source is super successful with developers community, not the end users. Developer gets support of other developers through community powered support and an open ground to flaunt their creativity, get recognition etc. Open source is definitely not a cup of tea for consumers. Salesforce.com is not yet profitable if they deduct an interest income. NetSuite is  generating a super deficit. Is there any profitable SaaS company in the world?&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;I can list many profitable open source companies instead.
